Dual Slope A/D Converter

Dual Slope A/D Converter

Matt Bennett

Dual Slope A/D A few years ago I got this idea into my head that I wanted a temperature gauge. This was before I knew about microcontrollers other than as a part of my "To Learn" list. I decided I wanted to build one. I could have gone to Radio Shack and bought one for far less effort, but this was to be a learning experience.

I decided to build it all with discrete logic. This was my first mistake. I remember in a few electronics classed we went over dual slope analog to digital converters, always in a block diagram sense, and I told myself that I could do that. Well I did, and you can see the results. I don't know if I'll ever be able to accurately reproduce the schematic, though once I find it, I post my (flawed) original.
